SAMBEVSKI - DISSIDENT BANNED FROM AUSTRALIA

BLAGOJE SAMBEVSKI - A year before death banned from entering Australia

by Sasha Uzunov

In 1974 a Macedonian anti-Communist dissident Blagoja Sambevski, an opponent of Tito's Yugoslavia and Secretary of the emigre organisation DOOM (Movement for the Liberation and Unification of Macedonia), was found dead at the hotel he was working at as a night porter in Munich, West Germany. A year before his death he had been rejected by Australia's security services from entering the country on a tourist visa to visit a relative by marriage.

Sambevski had been granted political asylum in Germany.

TEAM UZUNOV - WORLD EXCLUSIVE - BLAGOJE SAMBEVSKI, DOOM LEADER FROM GERMANY DENIED VISA TO VISIT AUSTRALIA IN 1973.

It is believed pressure from Yugoslavia on the Australian government led to denial of visa...

A Commonwealth Police Force (the forerunner of the Australian Federal Police) report, reveals that Blagoje Sambevski had applied for a visa to visit Melbourne, Australia.

The Commonwealth Police took notice of Sambevski in 1972 when he was elected Vice-President of the OKM - Osloboditelen Komitet Na Makedonija - Committe for the Liberation of Macedonia.

At a World Congress of Macedonian nationalists held in April 1972 in Munich, a split occured within OKM, a right wing became DOOM or DOM (Dvizenje za Osloboduvanje i Obedinuvanje na Makedonija) of which Sambevski had become Vice-President.

A left wing made up of Macedonian activists who had lived in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe took over OKM and set up headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

OKM, according to the Commonwealth Police, had a falling out with a Croatian nationalist group which was willing to allegedly sacrifice Macedonia to communist Bulgaria [under Soviet control] for supporting Croatian independence....

DOOM in Australia saw itself as countering pro-Yugoslav propaganda.

Sambevski planned to visit his brother in law, Ivan Civcic, a Croat. Sambevski's wife, Zora Dolic, was Croatian.

SAMBEVSKI -  Back from the dead?

ASIO blunder? This is puzzling.

A Macedonian political dissident living in West Germany, Blagoje Šambevski, was denied an entry visa by Australian authorities in 1973.

A year later he dies mysteriously at work in a Munich hotel room as a porter.

In 1981 ASIO have put him on the alert list of individuals they don't want to enter Australia.

A number of explanations:

1. Šambevski didn't die in 1974?

2. Šambevski did die & ASIO never updated it's files and assumed he was still alive?

3. Someone connected to or a former associate of Šambevski (including his suspected killer), may have arrived in Australia in 1981 & raised alarm bells with ASIO who hadn't been informed of Šambevski's death but had presumed that Šambevski would arrive in Australia in 1981 or 1982?

SERBIA'S COVERT USE OF RELIGION

Serbian Orthodox Bishop Kacavenda, caught in a sex scandal, and blackmailed by the then Yugoslav Communist intelligence service, UDBa, to spy on fellow priests during the 1970s and 80s. The use of religion as a covert manner for espionage in the Balkans is one of the oldest tricks in the book.

Macedonia's "reward" for humanitarian assistance -
SERBIA USES RELIGION TO DESTABLISE MACEDONIA.

by Sasha Uzunov

It is one of the oldest tricks in the book, especially in the Balkans, the use of religion by the state to conduct covert intelligence operations.

The Serbian State funds the Serbian Orthodox Church, which is waging a campaign against the Macedonian Orthodox Church by sponsoring a "rebel" Bishop John (Jovan) - real name is Zoran Vraniskovski... but it's way of destabilising Macedonia by hauling it to various human rights commissions over "free of worship" etc.

The Serbian Orthodox Church has gone after Macedonia's Orthodox Primate, Archbishop Stefan. see link

The Serbian, Greek and Bulgarian Orthodox Churches refuse to recognise the existence of a Macedonian Orthodox Church.

Officially the Republic of Serbia recognises Macedonia and a Macedonian nationality but still wants to keep its hand in the diplomatic poker game over Macedonia, especially with Bulgarian influence growing and so uses religion as a way of blackmailing Macedonia.

Recently, Serbia's former President Boris Tadic said that he regretted in not officially apologising for Serbia's historical injustices committed against Macedonia but would not elaborate. see link

Using a religious dispute is deliberately aimed at Macedonia's Cafe intellectual elite, many who are not interested in religion and so can't see the real danger the "church dispute" poses to Macedonia. The real issue is not about religion but about power.

It's very very clever and shameful, when you consider Macedonia, a tiny impoverished nation, gave humanitarian aid to Serbia when it was hit by floods. see link:

In the past the Yugoslav communists blackmailed a Serb Bishop Kacavenda, a pedophile, into spying for UDBa, the intelligence service, during the 1970s and 80s.

see link:
see link

It's a bad public relations exercise for the Serb nationalist cause: on the one hand it plays the victim card over Kosovo but is now waging an aggressive campaign, in the guise of religion, against Macedonia.

It's not the behaviour of a "victim" but a "predator.

---------
1971 BRATSVO I EDINSTVO (Brotherhood and Unity) ? Both Serb clergy and secularists reflect the same view

1971 Australian Foreign Affairs document - Australian Ambassador to SFR Yugoslavia pays a visit to SR Macedonia.

Ambassador R.H. Robertson: "En route to Skopje we visited the Serbian Orthodox monastery at Studenica and had some conversation with the Deputy Abbott (Igumen). I had the opportuntity of asking...a casual question about the Macedonian Orthodox Patriachate: He looked extremely dour and replied the "Patriachate is a political creation upon which I shall not comment." The reply reflected, on the church level, the tendency of many Serbians still to claim that the present [Socialist] Republic of Macedonia was in fact more accurately described under its pre-war title "South Serbia."
--------------
TEAM UZUNOV note: we are not aware of the Serbian clergy being arrested by UDBa for making those disparaging remarks. And we are surprised that Canadian-Serb film maker Boris Malagurski doesn't mention this chauvinism in his conspiracy laden film, The Weight of Chains."

The bias against the Macedonian Church was recored by a US Diplomatic cable, published on wiikleaks:

2007 US Diplomatic report (wikileaks - Julian Assange)

Title: SERBIAN PATRIARCH DYING; BISHOPS MANEUVERING

Serbian Orthodox Church removes one of its own Bishops for being sympathetic to Macedonian Church's claim to autocephaly...

With Amfilohije's appointment, the Holy Synod (the the SOC
governing body) removed Pavle's previous assistant, Metropolitan
Jovan of Zagreb, Ljubljana, and Italy, replacing the oldest bishop
with the longest-serving. The SOC press release said the choice of
Amfilohije was not a hint about the choice of the next Patriarch.

The press release did not explain the decision to replace Jovan.
Professor of religion and SOC insider Mirko Djordjevic told us the
Synod probably chose to remove Jovan because the SOC perceived as too sympathetic toward the Macedonian Orthodox Church's claims for
autocephaly. Makojevic told DCM the change was "routine."

AUSTRALIAN MP - a Yugoslav spy?

Was Lewis "Bata" Kent  (1925-2014) - an Australian Labor Federal Member of Parliament an intelligence operative for Communist Yugoslavia?

by Sasha Uzunov

LEWIS "BATA" KENT - Federal MP for Hotham (1980-90)

Team Uzunov exclusive - after a 2 year wait our application for access to Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) documents is finally processed

EXPLOSIVE: ASIO files reveal a former Australian Federal MP, before entering parliament, wanted in 1964 to bomb Croat activists in Australia...

In a 1982 ASIO report on Federal MP, Lewis Kent, his "activities" were listed:

7-1-1964: "Kent suggested that they set fire to the home of Srecko Rover [controversial Croat leader in Melbourne, Australia] and that other known fascists would be given attention (either by fire, bombing or by kidnapping)

on 13-2-1964 Kent said: "we will have to burn ROVER's home, then the church, everything."
In 1964 Kent had dinner with the Yugoslav Consul General, Dejan Popovic, on a visit to Melbourne.

In the same year Popovic telephoned Kent twice during a visit to Melbourne and visited his home.

In 1976 Kent invited Dr Georgi Trajkovski, Yugoslav Consul General in Melbourne and believed to be the Croatian Six set up mastermind, to dinner.

Kent was chairman of the controversial Australian Yugoslav Welfare Society, set up by Trajkovski, and which was accused of spying upon members of the Croat, Macedonian communities in Melbourne.

AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL POLICE (formerly Commonwealth Police)

You have to shake your head in amazement at Australian law enforcement and counter intelligence "naivety." Australian Federal Police Agent, DetectiveSenior Sergeant Arnold 'stumbled upon the fact' that an translator used to examine seized Croat documents was also close toYugoslav diplomats.

In fact Detective Snr Sergeant Arnold spoke to the man at a Yugoslav consulate cocktail reception for Aco Petrovic, from the Serbian Matica, visiting Australia in November 1983.

This is an AFP report handed to ASIO and inside Lewis Kent's ASIO file.www.naa.gov.au

In another report from 1983, Kent got in contact with Anton Buneta, identified as a Yugoslav intelligence officer by ASIO.

Money shot quote:
PLO TELLS YUGOSLAVIA - we'll choose our friends, Left wing Croats !

LEFT ON LEFT & "Radical Croat Chic" - In the 1980s a splinter group, HDP, from the mainstream Croatian nationalist movement emerged, moving to the left and aligning itself with "progressive forces" such as the Australian Trotskist group, the Socialist Workers Party... but also agitating for Croatian independence from Socialist Yugoslavia.

In the ASIO file of ex Federal MP Lewis "Bata" Kent, Kent, a hardcore leftist himself and supporter of Tito's Yugoislavia, was determined to destroy this group...HDP and its links with the Australian Left.

It also undermines the stereotype of all "Croatian nationalists" being labelled as right wing Ustashas, as was being pushed by Socialist Yugoslavia at the time.

Radical Croat Chic & George Seitz

In 1982, the HDP organised a dinner-dance in Melbourne, Australia and invited a representative from the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), Anton Shaer, and the Irish Republican Movement, Barry Hughes to give a talk. Also present was the ALP MP for the state seat of Keilor, Australian-Croat, George Seitz.

The event was reported in the local Croatian newspaper, Hrvatski Tjednik and a copy sent to PLO Heaquarters in Damascus, Syria. On finding out, Yugoslavia, a long time supporter of the PLO, protested.

The money shot quote: "PLO will choose its friends."

ASIO took this development very seriously...the Croats playing the "leftist card."

UPDATE - TEAM UZUNOV EXCLUSIVE - 1986 declassified ASIO document lodged with the National Archives of Australia - www.naa.gov.au

OUTRAGEOUS - The domestic Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) slams Australian Federal Police (AFP) for doing investigative work for Yugoslav Intelligence (YIS or UDBa/SDB) by passing on addresses to Yugoslav consulate staff in Melbourne. That man Georgi Trajkovski is at it again... see link for background story

1986 ASIO report: quote: "We now have the extraordinary situation of the AFP doing owner-occupier checks for YIS [Yugoslav Intelligence Service, UDBa/SDB] officers enabling them to carry out intelligence gathering interviews in Aust. [Australia]."

GERMAN POLICE - NO SAMBEVSKI MURDER

Triple M (MMM ) - Murder Mystery in Munich ? Sambevski case!

by Sasha Uzunov

ANOTHER GERMAN SHOCK ! - hot on the heels of Germany's demolition of Brazil 7-1, we deliver another German shock, a World exclusive breaking story brought to you by TEAM UZUNOV.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE - German Police can't locate file on the alleged suspicious death of Macedonian dissident Blagoja Sambevski in 1974. No record of murder taking place.

Munich City Police has just released a statement saying that there was no recorded murder of Blagoja Sambevski on the night of July 31/ August 1, 1974 in the city of Munich.

This has come as a bombshell. It contradicts claims made by Slovenian author Roman Leljak that the German police had re-opened the case.

We will keep you posted on any further developments from the Bavarian State Police.

in Anspruch nehmen.

UDBa COLD CASE - BLAGOJA SAMBEVSKI

40 years since the suspicious death or murder of Macedonian anti-communist and anti-Yugoslav dissident in Munich, Germany. Was he killed by UDBa, Yugoslav intelligence?

UDBa COLD CASE ? - BLAGOJA SAMBEVSKI
by Sasha Uzunov

In 1974 a Macedonian anti-Communist dissident Blagoja Sambevski, an opponent of Tito's Yugoslavia and Secretary of the emigre organisation DOOM (Movement for the Liberation and Unification of Macedonia), was found dead at the hotel he was working at as a night porter in Munich, West Germany. His head and body had been covered in blood with signs of blunt force trauma wounds to his skull...

It is speculated that Sambevski, assuming he had been murdered by Yugoslav intelligence (UDBa), had known his killer or killers; that the murder had been made to look messy and unprofessional in order not to arouse Bavarian State Police (German police force) suspicion, instead make it appear as a violent street crime.

Perhaps the killer or killers were also "pretending" to be dissidents or had even inflitrated DOOM and had gained the trust of Sambevski before killing him...

DEATH THREATS?

According to Makedonska Nacija (Macedonian Nation), DOOM's official newspaper, some threatening letters that were sent  Sambevski weeks  before his suspected murder by Yugoslav Intelligence (UDBa)

It might be a crazy idea--and I'm not a forensics expert--but I was wondering is it possible to take a DNA sample from saliva licked on postage stamps 40 years ago? Probably not .

I suppose if the Bavarian State Police re-open the case, and if they have kept the evidence, the clothing etc, they could probably run DNA testing, if possible.

Sambevski, was found dead by a fellow staff member on the nightshift of July 31 / August 1, 1974,  a day before the Ilinden Uprising commemoration (2 August) - Macedonian national day- fairly symbolic gesture if you wanted to send a political message.

PROVOKATSIYA

Provokatsiya is a Soviet intelligence tecnhique, first invented by the Tsarist Russian secret police and later perfected by the Soviet Cheka/OGPU/KGB and later taught to Yugoslav intelligence (OZNA/UDBa/SDB and Miltary counter-intelligence KOS).

Yugoslav Communist ruler Josip Broz Tito (code name WALTER) spent the 1920s living in the Soviet Union and survived the various Stalinist purges by toeing the official party line.

Provokatsiya or False Flag Operations involves creating "false opposition groups" and then drawing in genuine dissidents before destroying them...One successful action from the 1920s was the TRUST Operations, which fooled Russian monarchist opponents.

See link for a detailed history by Dr John Schindler:

The TRUST OPERATIONS: Menzhinsky's success

The Cheka became the OGPU in 1922 with Vyacheslav Menzhinsky  as its successful Director in conducting the TRUST Operations. see link

THE 1940 TROTSKY ASSASSINATION SIMILIAR TO 1974 SAMBEVSKI "DEATH?"

Leon Trotsky, was one of the leaders of the Russian Revolution of 1917 but fell foul of political rival Josef Stalin and was forced into exile. In 1940 Soviet intelligence hatched an evil plan to finally "dispose" of Trotsky, living in Mexico.

Soviet Intelligence infiltrated a Spanish Communist by the name of Ramon Mercader who posed as a Canadian with the mispelt name of Frank Jacson [Jackson] and he was able to befriend Trotsky over a period of time until he attacked him with an ice pick and bludgeon Trostsky over the head who died later in hospital.

In 1974 a Macedonian anti-Communist dissident Blagoja Sambevski, an opponent of Tito's Yugoslavia and Secretary of DOOM (Movement for the Liberation and Unification of Macedonia), was found dead at the hotel he was working at as a night porter in Munich, West Germany.

Perhaps the killer or killers were also "pretending" to be dissidents or had even infiltrated DOOM and had gained the trust of Sambevski before killing him...

Mercader was captured and spent many years in jail before being released and awarded a "Hero of the Soviet Union" medal. Sambevski's killer or killers are still officially unknown and have never been brought to justice.

We can only speculate but the killer or killers of Sambevski would have enjoined state honours, medals, awards and privileges from SFR Yugoslavia and probably is or are still being protected by the authorities of the Republic of Macedonia, one the successor states of Yugoslavia and ironically what Sambevski was responsible for.

So Sambevski's death or murder did not stop Yugoslavia from falling apart internally.
In 1977 - DOOM leader Dragan Bogdanovski was alleged to have been kidnapped by UDBa whilst in Paris and smuggled back to the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, then a part of SFR Yugoslavia to face trial for "anti-Yugoslav" activities, for which he was given over 10 years jail until released to found in 1990 one of the major political parties operating now in the independent Republic of Macedonia, VMRO-DPMNE.

Bogdanovski's opponents have accused him of being a "double-agent" for UDBa, with documents purporting to show his activities. But some have cast doubt on the authenticity of these documents produced during the Lustration Commission, established in post-communist Macedonia to discover who the informers were.

The irony of all of this is no politician or  UDBa senior commander or operative has ever been revealed nor who gave the orders to kill Sambevski and who the hit man or men was/were.

SNATCHING PRIVATE MATEVSKI?

Photo source: Programme de coopération décentralisée entre la
Région Basse-Normandie et la République de Macédoine

By Sasha Uzunov

We do the heavy lifting in research but Dnevnik newspaper in Skopje & TV Station Orbis in Bitola take the credit.... It's not our fault if we don't sit around all day in a Skopje or Bitola cafe drinking coffee and chain smoking. Some of us like to actually "work" as journalist !

NO CREDIT FROM DNEVNIK NEWSPAPER IN SKOPJE, & TV STATION ORBIS, BITOLA, MACEDONIA.

We solved a 70 year mystery over Pande Matevski (Panta Matevich) - the US soldier from Bitola, Macedonia who was killed in Normandy 1944- but Dnevnik reporter Zaneta Zdravkovska doesn't give us credit for uncovering that he enlited in the US Army under the name of Panta Matevich and his rank was Private First Class and not Petty Officer.

However, the Dnevnik article keeps repeating the mistake that he was in Airbourne (desant). He was in infantry. The Dnevnik article also keeps repeating the mistake that Pande Matevski was a "junior officer - podoficir."

Private First Class is not an officer rank nor is it an NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer rank - Staresina-in Macedonian- Corporal, Sergeant, etc).

We also mentioned his brother Peter.

The original Dnevnik article, on April 8 2014, which broke this story could not understand why Matevski's name did not appear in US military records. This is where we solved the mystery by going through US immigration and Army records and uncovering Matevski's family: his sister Kalopia Tasseff, his brother Peter, his father and mother.

After we solved this mystery, all of a sudden Zdravkovska has quoted an organisation based in Skopje called
Programme de coopération décentralisée entre la Région Basse-Normandie et la République de Macédoine (see the link) the with the answers on 27 May 2014...This organisation has given funding to TV Station Orbis in Bitola to make a short documentary about Private Matevski. We have not been contacted by any of the three organisations.

But prior to this no one had any idea...about why his name did not exist in US Army records. Hilarious.

Even the idea or theme such as the Saving Private Ryan/Steven Spielberg tagline for the documentary film mentioned in the Dnevnik article is similiar to our introductory paragraph of our April 28, 2014 story:

June/July 1944 D-Day and Normandy Landings - Steven Spielberg had Saving Private Ryan, we have SOLVING PRIVATE MATEVSKI .

With the 70th anniversary of D-Day approaching... I began seeking any information on a Private First Class Panta Matevich (Pande Matevski) 28th Infantry regiment, 8th Infantry Division, US Army, who fell in July 1944 in Normandy.

The Dnevnik article:
link:

On Facebook - April 9, 2014 we uncovered Pande Matevski had enlisted in the US Army under the name of Panta Matevich. On 28 April we published our story...

Note on Facebook homepage

April 9 ·
I believe I might have solved the mystery of the Macedonian, Pande Matevski (1914-44), serving in the US Army who was killed in Normany, 1944.

According to US military records a Private First Class Panta Matevich, born 1914, enlisted in the US Army from Cook County, Chicago Ilinois, US. Army ID number is 36032731. Later killed in Action.

He was an unskilled labourer, single, working with metals in civilian life.

Note: the Republic of Macedonia was from 1913 to 1941 under the occupation of the Kingdoms of Serbia & later Yugoslavia and names had been forcibly changed or Serbianised.

This might be the gentleman referred to the article below but we would still need more confirmation:

THE MIJALKOV MYSTERY DEEPENS

Former Macedonian Intelligence Officer, Alexander Dinevski, no stranger to controversy.

Unearthed document: 1992 formal complaint to the Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov and Parliament

THE JORDAN MIJALKOV MYSTERY DEEPENS - Why did Macedonia's Interior Minister Frckoski order intelligence officer's arrest in 1992?

by Sasha Uzunov

Professor Doctor Ljubomir Danailov Frckoski, who in recent times has cultivated the image of a mild mannered public intellectual who critiques mock baroque statues, had a more ruthless side to his stage personna as Macedonia's Interior Minister, ordering the arrest of a highly respected counter-intelligence officer and seizing documents relating to his successor Jordan Mijalkov killed in a mysterious car crash in Serbia in late 1991.

WELCOME TO BRAJCINO ? DOBRODOJDOVTE VO BRAJCINO?

Alexander (Aleksandar) "Aco" Dinevski , an officer with the Interior Ministry's SDB (Sluzba za Drzavna Bezbednost - State Security Service) was arrested on the 13 July 1992 whilst on annual summer vacation in his father's village of Brajcino, in the Lake Prespa region of Macedonia. The order had come from Interior Minister Frckoski over claims that Dinevski had been leaking secrets.

The Interior Ministry runs the police force and intelligence services.

Dinevski, flanked by SDB officers, was then driven back to Skopje, the capital of Macedonia and made to hand over his work files from his office safe as well as having his flat (apartment) in Skopje searched and private documents and books seized, including material relating to Mijalkov.

He later was released from custody and began court proceedings against Minister Frckoski over wrongful dismissal. In 1993 during my time as a reporter with the MILS news agency in Skopje I met Dinevski and attended his court trial on 18 March 1993. His lawyer being the well known attorney Rafael Cerepnalkovski-Rafe, later to become a Supreme Court judge. The matter was eventually settled.

Dinevski is no stranger to controversy. As a young reformist intelligence officer, he together with seven other colleagues, known as The Eight (Osumminata na RSVR), began pushing for reforms in Macedonia's interitor ministry then under Federal Communist Yugoslav control. His group also exposed corruption and abuse of power by Macedonia's communist ruling elite, namely Lazar Kolisevski, a close collaborater with Yugoslav ruler Marshal Tito.

In 1991 Macedonia became independent after leaving the collapsing Federal Yugoslavia, caused in most part in Serbian leader's attempts to set up a Greater Serbia.

Recently, Dinevski was in the news after being arrested on alleged espionage charges by the current Gruevski government.

Bizarre: WHY DID FRCKOSKI WANT TO SEIZE BOGDANOVSKI'S SIGNATURE & MIJALKOV PAPER?
In 1993 Dinevski gave me a copy of his 1992 deposition and formal complaint to the the President of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov, seeking Frckoski's sacking.

The document reads (in Macedonian):

"I had documents taken from my flat that did not relate to state security. I had a book that was personally signed by Dragan Bogdanovski [Macedonian dissident imprisoned by Communist Yugoslavia in 1977]. This book is readily available overseas. I wanted to study Bogdanovski's signature [rakopis]."

Dinevski then adds:

"I had drafted a "Proclamation [Proglas] for public resistance against JNA [Yugoslav People's Army] aggression against Republic of Macedonia" during 3 or 4 July 1991 on the instructions of the late Interior Minister Jordan Mijalkov. We were expecting JNA armed intervention when armed police vehicles had surrounded the Macedonian Parliament, MRTV [State broadcaster] office. A number of copies of this proclamation were lodged in a number of places just in case the JNA had liquidated the Macedonian political leadership.

"This paper was made known to the SDB chain of command. It never carried any security classification."

Dinevski also reveals he had a document, in the public domain, about Slave Vasovski, indicted for a bombing in Skopje in 1974.

Another document taken related to fellow SDB officer Mile Ilievski, one of The Eight, who committed suicide 6 May 1992; and a proposal from an SDB commander and later advisor to Minister Frckoski, that Ilievski's phone (number 208-189 in Skopje) should be tapped from 30 April to 8 May 1992.

DINEVSKI CRITIC OF GRUEVSKI'S LUSTRATION:

Dinevski became a critic of Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's Lustration Commission, a judicial body set up to investigate former Communist informers.

Dinevski told EU pundit Sinisa Jakov-Marusic: “From my experience in the security forces, I know that many operatives were adding stuff to their reports that was not true, naming informants they never met… and now we pronounce people as spies based on those documents."

Dinevski's 1992 deposition - making a formal complaint to the President of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov and asking for the sacking of then Interior Minister Ljubomir Danailov Frckoski

THE JORDAN MIJALKOV HIT - was the Macedonian Minister assassinated?

by Sasha Uzunov

Just before Christmas 1991, I got a phone call from two Melbourne based branch members, Andon Lazarevski and Vidan Zvezdakovski, from VMRO-DPMNE, now the governing party in Macedonia. They were faxing media releases about the unexpected death of Jordan Mijalkov, Macedonia's Interior Minister. One was sent to the BBC in London but with no response.

They asked if I, as an independent freelance journalist, was interested in the story? I said I was happy to talk to anyone from any political party, including Macedonia's Social Democrats (SDSM), or ethnic background for information. It is a hard business trying to steer an independent course amongst Macedonia's two major political parties.

In December 1991 Jordan Mijalkov, was killed in a car accident as he was rushing to meet with his Serbian counterpart. At the time there was speculation his death had been arranged by person or persons unknown. The other possibility was it was a genuine car crash.
